Do LLMs even send traffic? Is this worth the investment?

Right now, LLMs only account for a modest proportion of traffic to the typical website. However, that is not the whole story. Their influence sits upstream of websites, affecting who appears in shortlists, comparisons and recommendations.

Most people will not visit a website directly from an AI tool, but instead navigate there using traditional methods (for example, a branded Google search) after doing their research using AI.

Can you really measure AI SEO performance?

Yes, although there are limitations. Traditional analytics such as GA4, configured correctly, allow us to track traffic and sales or leads that originate directly from AI platforms. However, it is common for LLMs not to appear in that measurable journey due to where they sit in the discovery process.

This is where dedicated GEO measurement tools come in. These are still in their early stages, but they provide valuable insight into how often your brand appears across AI tools and in relation to which topics.
