What is llms.txt?

llms.txt is a proposed file format designed to offer Large Language Models (LLMs) a simplified, curated view of a website’s most important content. The idea has been introduced as a way to guide AI systems more effectively, giving them cleaner access to meaningful content without relying on noisy, script-heavy HTML pages. Unlike robots.txt, which restricts access, llms.txt is opt-in—it invites AI to read what you decide is important.

llms.txt is a plain-text Markdown file that sits at the root of your site—https://yoursite.com/llms.txt.

It’s like robots.txt, but instead of keeping bots out, it gives LLMs (Large Language Models) a clean version of your most important pages.
